Book Description:
Condensed matter physics (solid state physics) and deals with the study of matter in scales larger than atoms. Some of the key questions researched include: Can we understand emergent properties of matter such as the existence of metallic and insulating states, superconductivity, and magnetic long-range order? How do the relatively simple laws which govern microscopic physics organize themselves at the macroscopic level into a wide variety of complex behavior, seen for instances in the many phases of liquid crystals? What is the nature of the phase transitions between these different states of matter? Is there universal behavior at large length and time scales which is insensitive to the details of the microscopic interaction? And how does disorder in the form of impurities, crystal defects, and surface adsorbates alter these phases?
This series presents a collection of papers exploring the most current and cutting edge research in the condensed matter field.

Table of Contents:
Preface; A Diagrammatic Approach for the Information Transfer Across Weakly Non-Linear Networks (E. Korutcheva, Departamento de Fisica Fundamental Universidad Nacional de Educacion a Distancia, Spain and Valeria Del Prete, University of Leuven, Belgium); Characterization of GaN Thin Films Grown on Double Buffer Layer by RF Plasma-Assisted Molecular Beam Epitaxy (W.K. Fong, B.H. Leung, and C. Surya, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong); Structural, Thermodynamic, Transport and Surface Properties of Liquid Metals (Isao Yokoyama, National Defense Academy, Japan); Intrinsic and Domain Magnetism in Nanomaterials (D.L. Beke and S. Szabó, L. Kossuth University, Hungary; M. Kis-Varga, Institute Nuclear Research of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Hungary); Nanotechnology Abstracts (Eugene V. Dirote); Index.
