Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is the most frequent adult-onset motor neuron disease (MND), and results from progressive widespread degeneration affecting both upper and lower motor neurons. This book is intended to review some of the current concepts and perspectives in the multidisciplinary management of ALS patients. Special emphasis on respiratory management and non-invasive ventilatory support, neurogenic dysphagia and alternative nutritional strategies, speech dysfunction and alternative communication, psycho-behavioral disturbances such as frontotemporal dementia (FTD), pseudo-bulbar affect and depression, and general symptom management.
