Book Description:
Dusty plasmas contain micron sized dust grains, electrons, and ions. The small microparticles are charged due to their interaction with the electrons and ions in the plasma and thus form a further, owing to their large sizes (dust grains are billion times heavier than ions), dominating component in the plasma. The properties of this special component in the plasma leads to its dynamical observability on the kinetic level, which enables a totally new access to plasma physics.
Dust Plasma Interaction in Space contains an up-to-date description of the dust grain charging and shielding of isolated dust grains, the dust grain dynamics in a plasma sheath, motions of nonspherical dust grains and associated instabilities, new instabilities in collisional and self-gravitating dusty plasma environments, nonlinear waves and structures, dust agglomerations, and some exotic phenomena associated with the Ising-Lenz model and the Casimir effect. The subjects are topical and have relevance to the understanding of the complex phenomena that are occuring in our Solar system, the Earth's mesosphere, and in laboratory discharges. The book provides the reader with a deeper understanding of numerous collective processes in dusty plasmas. It should be a very valuable addition to the rapidly developing dusty plasma literature and can also be used for teaching purposes.
The Editor, who is an authority in dusty plasma physics, has created many international forums where scientists from all over the world have exchanged ideas and worked together to advance our knowledge in various fields of physics.
