Abstract:
Zeolites are well-known regular crystalline porous dielectrics, which can be used as
host matrices to design a wide variety of unique nanocomposites by infiltration of their
voids and channels with guest substances.
AFI zeolite-like aluminophosphates ( AlPO4 − 5 ) are very convenient for this
purpose because their framework with one dimensional nanochannels is free from
exchangeable cations. AFI single crystals with a high optical quality have been grown
and characterized by electrical and optical measurements.
Electrical and photoelectric properties of small ( 20 ÷100 microns ) zeolite single
crystals have been studied by direct-current (DC) measurements, using tin or bismuth
droplets as the electrodes or attached gold contacts.
Zeolite-based nanocomposite materials containing regular arrays of indium,
selenium, iodine, cadmium sulphide, sodium nitrite or nitrate nanoparticles in types A, X,
mordenite zeolite and AFI zeolite-like porous matrices were prepared and characterized
by optical absorption, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, electrical and photoelectrical
measurements. Nanocomposite materials under study demonstrate pronounced quantum
size effects (blue shifts of the absorption, diffuse reflectance and photoconductivity
spectra as compared with bulk guest materials).
