Abstract: In this communication, we have summarised evidence on the effects of paracetamol plus codeine in treating postoperative pain. Paracetamol plus codeine are effective in achieving at least 50% pain relief over 4 to 6 hours in postoperative patients. They are a safe combination to use without commonly reported adverse effects. The use of paracetamol 600 to 650mg plus 60mg codeine was the most commonly used dose to treat pain in post-operative settings. However, no conclusive evidence was identified to determine the optimal dose due to the lack of evidence.
