Analysis Of Simulated Fracture Surfaces Using Amt And Fractal Geometry Methods (pp. 3-11)

Abstract: Conventional fractal analysis and new AMT (Angle Measure Technique) method are applied for investigation of deformation structure that appears in metals under plastic deformation. The problem of quantitative description of fracture surfaces is important for understanding the deformation processes and therefore for new materials development. In order to evaluate the ability of the methods to discriminate and to classify the surfaces regarding their complexity, both fractal analysis and AMT are applied to simulated surface images having different roughness and noise level. It is shown that the AMT method gives better results for the noised images and for images with a non self-similar structure.
