Evaluation of a Preventive Drug Education Program in Hong Kong using the Repertory Grid Method

Abstract: The repertory grid method based on personal construct psychology was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the Project Astro in Hong Kong. Thirty participants (N=30) were invited to complete a repertory grid that was based on personal construct theory to provide both quantitative and qualitative data in measuring self-identity changes after joining the program. Both quantitative and qualitative data generated from the grid method showed that the participants perceived positive changes in the self-representation system joining the program. This study provides additional support for the effectiveness of Project Astro in the Chinese context. This study also shows that repertory grid method is a useful evaluation method to measure self-identity changes in participants in drug prevention programs.
