Abstract: The methodical aspects of an avalanche mechanism of the electrical breakdown of gases (EGB) are discussed. An avalanche theory and its contradictions with the experiment are considered. Basing on a nonlinear plasma-waveguide model the mechanisms are considered, which may help to overcome the contradictions. The experiments that are advisable to be performed at a modern stage of research are described.
