Abstract: In this chapter we propose to provide an overview of recent empirical studies evaluating the effects of child sexual abuse prevention programs. Programs targeting preschool and elementary aged children are first reviewed and then evaluative studies of programs designed for adults will be presented. We will provide a summary of outcomes of some recently evaluated sexual abuse prevention programs in the province of Quebec. A discussion of potential negative side-effects of prevention programs will be presented as well as an outline of the methodological limitations of current studies in the area of sexual abuse prevention programs. Finally we will offer possible recommendations regarding the future of prevention efforts in the area of child sexual abuse.
