Abstract:
Based on the conclusions drawn from general climatic impacts, the present review
synthesizes the results relevant to evergreen oaks of Iberian region. This review
summarizes the available literature related to evergreen oaks mainly from mid 1990`s
onward in the fields of eco-physiology, population dynamics and soil science. Other
important factors interacting synergistically with climatic factors are also mentioned,
such as forest fires and subsequent land use change. Topics addressed are general
responses of oaks stands to climate change including physiography changes in the
species composition, structural changes, productivity and trees-insects/microbial
interactions. In conclusion, the productivity and distribution patterns of oak forest are by
and large, negatively affected by climate change and may continue in the future, as
predicted by models in the future climate change scenarios. Hence the present review
aims to promote better forest policies reflecting the awareness of future climate change in
the Iberian region.
