Multi-Path Routing Protocols for Ad Hoc Networks (pp.39-64) $100.00
Authors:  (B. Rofoee, N. Qadri, M. Fleury, M. Ghanbari, University of Essex, School of Computer Science and Electronic Eng., Colchester, Essex, United Kingdom)
Within an ad hoc wireless network, multi-path routing can result in reduced end-to-end
delay, increased path reliability, an increase in aggregate bandwidth, load-balancing to
equalize energy consumption, and congestion avoidance, as well as acting as a security
mechanism. This Chapter reviews multi-path routing in ad hoc networks. The operation of
selected single-path ad hoc routing is described, as well-known protocols such as AODV and
DSR are the starting points for their multi-path enhancements. An analysis of the operation of
existing multi-path protocols is included. The Chapter contains a study of the design
principles behind multi-path routing. As an application case study, multi-description coding of
video streaming over multi-paths is illustrated for a vehicular ad hoc network.
