Abstract: Perceval™ S is a super-elastic, self-expanding, self-anchoring, sutureless surgical prosthetic aortic heart valve. It is designed to be a highly versatile and deployable prosthesis using a variety of techniques, including classic surgical aortic valve replacement (AVR) and minimally invasive surgery.
Several advantages can be expected from sutureless placement: avoidance of stitches through the annulus, improved haemodynamic performance, a substantially shorter cross-clamping time and faster recovery due to improved clinical outcome. Clinical experiences indicate that the valve has advantages over other ‗sutureless‘ valves as well as over valves currently used with a transapical approach in TAVI.
Reports from the use of Perceval™ S in the open transaortic approach from cardiac surgery centres throughout Europe confirm the markedly reduced cardiopulmonary bypass and cross-clamping times compared with conventional surgical AVR, both in patients needing bypass grafting and in those with isolated AVR.
Available initial experiences with the deployment of Perceval S™ in minimally invasive valve replacement are also very promising. In selected patients, the intervention could be completed under epidural anaesthesia, awakening patients in the operating theatre.
The average skin-to-skin time for the entire procedure was 75 min. Thus, the sutureless valve is a further step towards the aspiration for the surgeon to minimise surgical time and patient discomfort in valve replacement.
