Abstract: Catheter based mitral valve repair systems offer a new option to those who have prohibitively high risk for conventional mitral valve surgery. MitraClip™ Mitral Valve Repair System (Evalve Inc., Menlo Park, California) is a multi-axial catheter system utilizing a clip to grasp and stitch the mitral leaflets percutaneously by a transvenous transseptal approach. Data from the EVEREST trials (Endovascular Valve Edge-to-Edge Repair Study) demonstrated the catheter based MitraClip™ system has clinical benefits and is safe and effective for selected patients with moderate to severe mitral regurgitation. In this chapter the therapeutic potential of the MitraClip™ system is discussed on the basis of available data from the EVEREST trials.
