Rationale and Strategies for Using Kolb Learning Style Theory in the Classroom pp. 93-113
Authors: Julie E. Sharp
Abstract: Kolb’s experiential learning theory offers a flexible, effective framework for understanding learning and for devising teaching strategies to enhance learning. This chapter presents an overview of the theory, describes its strengths, and offers practical suggestions for applying it in the classroom. Suggestions include methods for teaching systematically around the Kolb learning cycle, using various instructional techniques and assignments targeting each learning style, and integrating Kolb theory into course content. Although the examples described are primarily from college engineering courses, the principles can apply to classes and training workshops at all educational levels.
