Abstract: Since the dawn of industrial revolution, humankind has been extracting enormous amounts of fossil fuels and burning it indiscriminately in pursuit of economic growth and higher standards of living. Global climate change, however, appears to be on a collision course with this paradigm. While policymakers are debating the options, many experts believe that incremental fixes will not suffice given the enormous scale of the problem. This article examines the historical context, the options and ramifications of transition to a more carbon-frugal future.
