From reactive to proactive systemic prostate cancer therapy (pp. 251-254) $0.00
Authors:  Phillip Blanchette and Urban Emmenegger
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed non-cutaneous cancer in North American men (1). In its lethal form, i.e., castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), it represents the second-leading cause of malignancy-associated male deaths. While around 30%, 60% and 90% of contemporary CRPC patients present with visceral, nodal and bone metastases, respectively, the latter account for much of CRPC-related symptoms, especially pain. Herein, we intend to briefly summarize how the goals of care in CRPC therapy have become increasingly ambitious over the last 20 years, and how these developments have decreased the burden of CRPC-associated symptoms.
