Neuropeptide Y Modulates Spike Activity in the Rat Suprachiasmatic Nucleus and Phase-Shifts the Circadian Rhythm of Wheel Running (pp. 213-214)

Abstract: Mammalian suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) contains a master clock generating the endogenous circadian rhythm. Previous studies showed an involvement of neuropeptide Y (NPY) in modulating the SCN circadian oscillator. Eliminating the release of NPY in the SCN impairs photic entrainment of circadian rhythms of body temperature and behavior  and non-photic entrainment of wheel running activity . The present study aims to examine the effects of neuropeptide Y on spike activity of the SCN neurons and on wheel running rhythm.
