Soil Fertility Enhancing Microorganisms and Their Application as Biofertilizers pp.1-16 $100.00

Abstract:
It has been well established that naturally occurring beneficial soil microbes play a
vital role in the maintenance of agricultural soil fertility to ensure food production for a
still-growing world population. Beneficial soil microbes are involved in a wide variety of
activities that benefit soil fertility, plant growth and agricultural sustainability. These soil
microbes elicit their beneficial effect by fixing atmospheric nitrogen into bioavailable
ammonia and nitrate, converting insoluble phosphate such as calcium acid phosphate into
soluble forms, improving and maintaining soil fertility, thereby improving plant growth
and productivity. In this chapter, we will discuss several different aspects of nitrogenfixing
and phosphate-solubilizing bacteria, with an emphasis on their applications as
biofertilizers.
